{"id":2665,"date":"2026-05-25T05:26:57","date_gmt":"2026-05-25T05:26:57","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/moviechilltrailer.com\/?p=2665"},"modified":"2026-05-25T05:26:58","modified_gmt":"2026-05-25T05:26:58","slug":"part-2-the-blood-on-his-knuckles","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/moviechilltrailer.com\/?p=2665","title":{"rendered":"PART 2 \u2014 THE BLOOD ON HIS KNUCKLES"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His fist cut through the air so close to my face I felt the wind from it brush my cheek.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I stumbled backward, still gripping the rusted chain attached to the Labrador\u2019s collar while the dog pressed himself against my legs so violently his entire body trembled against mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man lost balance after missing the punch and crashed shoulder-first into the old barbecue grill behind us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The metal grill flipped sideways with a deafening clang.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ash and grease exploded across the concrete patio.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Labrador cried out in pure terror and collapsed flat against the ground, covering his face with both paws like he already knew what usually came next.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That broke something inside me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because no animal learns to protect its face like that unless it\u2019s been hit over and over again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou son of a\u2014\u201d the man roared, scrambling upright. \u201cThat\u2019s MY dog!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He came at me again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time I shoved him hard in the chest before he could swing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He staggered backward into a pile of black trash bags stacked beside the garage. One burst open on impact, spilling rotten food, beer cans, and filthy paper plates across the yard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The smell was unbearable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entire backyard looked like something abandoned for years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Broken furniture.<br>Rusty tools.<br>Flies everywhere.<br>Bowls filled with green water.<br>And right beside the fence sat a tiny overturned plastic dog bed too small for a Labrador puppy, let alone a full-grown dog.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The chain around the Labrador\u2019s neck couldn\u2019t have been more than three feet long.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Three feet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That dog had been living his life in a circle smaller than a prison cell.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou need to calm down,\u201d I shouted while pulling my phone from my pocket. \u201cI\u2019m calling the police.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man\u2019s face twisted instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cNo you\u2019re not.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His voice changed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Lower.<br>Colder.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The kind of voice that makes your instincts scream danger.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stepped toward me slowly now instead of charging.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That terrified me even more.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Labrador whimpered and crawled behind my legs, trying to disappear between me and the fence. I could feel him shaking so hard his nails scratched against my shoes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And then I noticed something horrifying.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dog wasn\u2019t just thin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Every rib pushed sharply through his fur like knives beneath skin.<br>One ear was split nearly in half by an old wound.<br>His tail had patches with no fur at all.<br>There were cigarette burns scattered along his side.<br>And around his neck was a deep infected groove where the chain had worn into flesh.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My stomach turned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHow long has he been like this?\u201d I demanded.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man spat on the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cHe\u2019s just old.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Old?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Labrador couldn\u2019t have been more than four or five years old.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Suddenly the dog tried putting weight on his front paw and cried out immediately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The leg bent at a terrible angle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Broken.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Or healed wrong.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Probably never treated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Rage flooded through me so fast my hands started shaking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou broke his leg,\u201d I said quietly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man laughed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cYou gonna prove it?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That laugh made the neighbors start coming outside.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A curtain moved in the house next door.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">An older woman across the street stepped onto her porch holding a phone.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A teenage boy appeared at the end of the driveway recording everything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner saw them too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And he hated it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cMind your damn business!\u201d he screamed toward the street.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Nobody moved.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Labrador slowly lifted his head and looked at the people watching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But he didn\u2019t move toward them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He stayed hidden behind me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Like he\u2019d already decided I was the safest place in the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That nearly destroyed me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I knelt carefully beside him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cIt\u2019s okay,\u201d I whispered. \u201cNobody\u2019s gonna hurt you again.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The dog stared at me with terrified brown eyes filled with confusion, like kindness didn\u2019t make sense to him anymore.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then I saw the collar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It was buried beneath dirt and infected fur around his neck. Faded blue leather cracked from age.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I reached carefully toward it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner instantly panicked.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cDon\u2019t touch that!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Too late.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I turned the metal tag over.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The front only had one name scratched into it:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BAILEY.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Labrador\u2019s ears twitched weakly the second I said it out loud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cBailey\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">His tail moved once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Just once.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But it was enough.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The entire street seemed to go silent.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Because that dog still knew his name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner\u2019s face suddenly lost color.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And when I flipped the tag over, my heart nearly stopped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Engraved on the back were the words:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">IF FOUND PLEASE CALL SARAH<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">followed by a phone number.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The man lunged toward me instantly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cGIVE ME THAT!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"438\" height=\"496\" src=\"https:\/\/moviechilltrailer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-646.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2666\" srcset=\"https:\/\/moviechilltrailer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-646.png 438w, https:\/\/moviechilltrailer.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/05\/image-646-265x300.png 265w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 438px) 100vw, 438px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He grabbed my wrist so hard pain shot through my arm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Labrador exploded into barking.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Not aggressive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Protective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For the first time since I\u2019d seen him, Bailey stopped hiding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">He planted himself between me and the man despite his injured leg, growling low while his entire body shook in fear.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner stared at the dog in shock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As if he\u2019d never seen Bailey defend anyone before.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That\u2019s when the older woman across the street suddenly shouted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cOh my God\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Everyone turned toward her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">She looked pale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Truly pale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Her phone trembled in her hand as she stared at the collar tag.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cI know that dog,\u201d she whispered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The owner immediately snapped toward her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cShut up, Martha!\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But she ignored him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tears filled her eyes instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cThat dog disappeared almost two years ago,\u201d she said shakily. \u201cA little girl in this neighborhood used to walk him every morning before school\u2026\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My chest tightened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The woman looked directly at Bailey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">And the Labrador began wagging his tail weakly the second he heard her voice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Then she said the sentence that made the entire street freeze:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cSarah never stopped looking for him.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>His fist cut through the air so close to my face I felt the wind from it brush my cheek.
